Los Blancos' History

Real Madrid has most likely accomplished everything a football team could. Real has been one of the most popular clubs in the world, with a record of 33 La Liga wins, 19 Copa del Rey trophies, a staggering 13 European Cups, and 2 UEFA Cups, making them unrivaled in the race for the best football clubs of all time.

The 6th of March, 1902 was where it all began, with the name "Madrid Foot Ball Club", but it wasn't until 1920 that King Alfonso XIII granted the title of "real" – or "royal" in English – on them.

Los Blancos (their nickname as they started wearing all white kits) were one of the pioneering teams as sport developed in Spain, and they were crucial to the creation of championships such as the Copa del Rey, where they won four of the first six titles.

Real Madrid were one of the first teams to help create a European cup (UEFA Champions League now) which involves the best teams in the continent. Los Blancos managed to win all first 5 editions, and this continued over the years, where they now hold the record for most European cups with 13 titles.

Hence, Real Madrid were always able to have the world's best players, including legends like Alfredo Di Stefano, Ferenc Puskas, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo Nazario, Iker Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo and many more, whom enabled the club to be one of the world's biggest entities.

  1. This article contains a lot of information I didn't know! To be honest, I always thought Barcelona was the team in Spain with the most history but it seems Real madrid has a lot of history as well! Is there a reason that in 1902 in the name Madrid Foot Ball Club ''Foot Ball'' is written separately? Also, Is the nickname of Real Madrid still ''los Blancos''?

I don't know if you have this information but do you perhaps know since when the fans began with the famous white wall behind the goal (they all wear white shirts)?

  2. I didn't know a lot of the history of Real Madrid, it was interesting to read. However, my opinion about this club has not changed. I think it is a shame that the past decades everything has become about getting the biggest players in the world, the "galacticos". I think a club like Real Madrid has to have their own identity and this shouldn't be build around getting superstars. They need to build on their own culture.

  3. Intriguing! For a football fan it gives you goosebumps when reading through the history of clubs like Real Madrid. The Galacticos will forever have their place in history books and some might say this was the best side of eleven to ever stand on a football pitch. Great article! -Arno P.

I knew about the history of Real Madrid but it is always good to have a reminder of the details. Also, it's interesting to know about one side of the creation of a football club, coming from the rich families and not the working class. It would be interesting to se a comparación between two clubs that where originally started from different social clases.
But in general a really interesting information and a nice reminder of some of the details

  5. What an intesting article. Real Madrid has to be one of the best clubs in football history if not the best. I believe that it is the team with the biggest "palmarés" in football history and it is also the team with the most Champions League in football history, which for me is the best trophy a club aspire to win. It was great to read the full story of Real, how everything started... And I wish I was a football fan when the galacticos were playing, what a crazy generation of players!

It is very interesting to see how these great sports titan have grown.
It's funny how so much has changed in such a short time.
It reminds me a lot of the current esports teams that are consolidating in the sector, such as G2, NRG, Vitality, TSM ...

  9. There is no doubt that Real Madrid could be considered one of the best football teams in history, however, even though I am one big fan of them, I think they are a little overhyped. What they did in recent years in the champions league leaves me with no words. They won 4 champions league trophies in 5 years, being champions in 3 consecutive years under Zinedine Zidane. This leaves “the blancos” with 13 European trophies, more than any club in football history. However, it would be interesting to analyze the information behind this a little deeper.
Real Madrid won the first five editions of the European trophy (which they created), where there were not the amount of teams that there are today. And if you look up footage of those games, Its actually hilarious to see some plays when there resulted favoured by referee decisions. Adding this to the fact that Real Madrid has been for most of the time, by far, the richest club among all, leaving them the capacity to waste huge amount of money for big names every transfer window. I just wonder, what if all teams had the same budget and resources? clearly Real Madrid is one of the biggest teams in football history, but it is not crazy to think they might be a little overhyped!

  11. Today, it is impossible to talk about the history of soccer without talking about Real Madrid.
Undoubtedly, and even if it is the rival team, there is no problem in recognizing that Madrid is the best club in the history of soccer, and that's fine.
Many may not like the forms, the controversies and the character of several of its characters over the years, but there is no denying the legacy they have made, and will continue to make, in the world of soccer.
As their slogan says... "History you made, history to be made".
